I agree in detail and as a whole, but feel strangely vexed at ‘science’ taking a trashing. I guess there’s tribal instincts in me and I loved science and math since I was young. Those have such bewildering beauty after the mechanics of handling them become comfortable.

The whole argument reminds me of Nick Bostrom who said something to the effect that more or less any level of intelligence could be combined with more or less any final goal. In the same way, science and math are effective at reliably capturing repeatable patterns but say nothing about morals or ethics. For those you need philosophy.
