One US citizen consumes and pollutes as much as 80 to 120 citizens from poorer countries. For example, this means the population of the US is as much a burden on planet Earth as about 22 billion Pakistani citizens.
In the context of your logic, the implication is clear. We don’t have too many humans, we have too many “Americans”. If culling is to be done, this should start and end with the US. Even better, by your logic, culling the top 10 million richest US citizens should be enough to save the planet.
The real problem is in our social constructs and specifically, the biggest problem is capitalism. Any socio-economic system that has unrestrained positive feedback will lead to the ills that you’ve described and that is clearly seen in my country and in the US. The challenge is to create a better socio-economic system. Culling human population will do nothing. Cutting off three quarters of a cancer patient’s body will not cure her. You must target and remove humanity’s socio-economic cancer.
