You do realize that the Jesuits were talking about brainwashing? A child under 7 hasn't developed their brains sufficiently to counter the fantastical propositions of religion. The brain undergoes physiological changes in terms of neurological wiring starting at about that age. The Jesuit didn't know that biologically but they knew that practically. You can brainwash a child of 7 with stories in a way that you can't a young person of 14.
